Recently, my nerve was compressed, possibly even a herniated disc. At first it was just a bit painful, but then it got worse and worse—eventually becoming unbearable. I tried to find a position that wouldn't hurt, but without success. Now, after different types of treatment and prayer, my lower back and left leg are almost back to normal, with almost no pain.
Although this was a painful experience, it's nothing compared to the punishment Christ endured, even though he had done nothing wrong. He was flogged, forced to carry a heavy cross, and had nails driven through his wrists and feet into the cross. He suffered a painful death because of our sins, fulfilling the law so that we could receive God's forgiveness and be reconciled with God.
None of us have met God's perfect and holy standard. Because we have all failed and sinned. Only through Christ can we receive God's forgiveness, because He has accomplished it.
